Add the Family Description as a Standard Attribute when creating a new symbol
Adding the Family Description as a Standard Attribute makes possible for us to add additional information on the symbol using the family of it, instead of using informations from the parts_database.
There can be a one to many relation between symbols and families. For example, same protection relay input symbol will be used with multiple families. In this case, the family is used to set(define) terminal numbers (connection points). The parts database record can be used to build a relation between symbols and families. The software uses this relation to automatically assign a device family when part number is selected.
Using a Standard Attribute on a symbol to create a relation between symbols and families poses a challenge for change management as symbols would need to be updated when new family is created. Much simpler to add a parts database record than modifying a standard attribute embedded into a symbol.
Should further clarification be required, please reply with a detailed example and/or use case.
